Emma Louise McGlen

Founder, Instructor

Emma worked for the NHS for over 15 years, working within Occupational Therapy with Older Persons Mental Health, Palliative Care, Respiratory and Orthopaedics.
Due to her working with people with a vast range of long term health conditions and finding this role very rewarding she decided it was time for a career change.

After passing her
Level 4 Specialist Postural Stability Instructor, Level 3 GP referral, Level 3 Mat based Pilates and Escape Pain courses Emma begin teaching classes for the over 50s in Gateshead with long term health conditions at as an Exercise Specialist at Move to Improve.

Emma used both Pilates and Yoga to alleviate back pain and anxiety, and through this, she learned that she could teach others how to live better.

​By launching Pilates and Yoga Studio Ltd, Emma has been able to hold small group sessions where the attention to detail and coaching is the number one priority, helping people to transfer their learning into their everyday lives. 

In 2020 Emma went on to do a Pilates Mat Conversion With 
Body Control Pilates.  The main focus of Body Control Pilates is the principle of encouraging natural movement. This is the vital foundation for avoiding injury and maintaining fitness regardless of age or ability.  Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective - and medically-approved.  
After successfully passing her qualification Emma is now a member of the Body Control Pilates Association – one of the largest Pilates organisation in Europe, Emma will have to undergo continuous professional development throughout the years to retain her prestigious membership.

Yoga Instructor

I first tried yoga in my 20's and found the relaxation part so difficult I stopped going back. Years later after sitting at a PC for hours I knew my body and mind needed help. Luckily I found a yoga teacher who helped me through my relaxation issues and I grew to love every aspect of the practice. I never planned to teach yoga and did the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course to learn more about the history and philosophy of yoga. I loved the course so much that I wanted to learn more and completed the BWY 500hr Diploma in March. I see yoga practice as a life-long journey and love passing on the knowledge I have gained and sharing my journey with the students who come to classes. Some people have certain expectations or even worries when going to a yoga class for the first time but my advice is to just let go of your expectations and come along with an open mind...the most important thing is that you are making time for your own self-care, which can only be an amazing thing :)

YOGA INSTRUCTOR

After practicing yoga at home for years I decided it was time to begin taking classes to further advance my practice. 
I immediately fell in love with hot yoga and the more dynamic flow classes. I’ve since practised a wide range of different yoga styles and recently completed my 200 hour YTT in London.

I love teaching yoga and my aim is to share this amazing experience with others, the benefits of yoga on your body and mind are endless. I have recently left my job at Gateshead Council after 17 years to fully immerse myself into my passion for yoga.

I meet so many interesting and amazing people through teaching yoga and I think anyone who practises regularly would agree that it can truly transform your life.
