Lets get outdoors

When life seems busy, stressful or uncertain, the harder it is to make time for the things we love to do — the things that will lift our spirits and make us feel happy and content.

I find that I spend my days washing, ironing, cleaning, cooking, getting the kids sorted for school / work (yes he's 18 but I still run around for him ha! ) and thats before I teach my Pilates classes and over 50s Strength and balance classes and everything else that goes on in the background!  (not forgetting my own 10-minute Pilates routine) … just trying to fit in all the tasks that are part of daily life.

Can you Relate?.....

While I enjoy most of the daily tasks in my life, if I’m not careful, I can easily spend Monday to Friday moving from task to task, car to class, and barely stepping outside to take a deep breath and connect with the outdoors.

Spending time outdoors regularly can help to:
  • Boost energy levels while reducing stress and anxiety.
  • Strengthen your immune system
  • Reduce cortisol levels (stress hormone) naturally.
  • Improve sleep

Its time to slow down, Our “off the mat” challenge is to get outdoors.  The health benefits are endless!

Here are some fun ways to get outdoors:
  • Find a park or a calm outdoor space nearby where you can go when you need a break. Turn off the notifications on your phone and just enjoy the sounds and sights around you. Notice how you feel after your time outside and how this feeling stays with you throughout the day.
  • Plan to go to an outdoor cafe / restaurant near the river or the beach. Just being close to water will bring you that feeling of relaxation and reduced stress!
  • Roll up your mat and head outdoors! Give yourself a change of scenery and do your Pilates / Yoga workout with a cool breeze on your face.
  • By making a conscious effort to get outdoors, to unwind / recharge and soak in what the outdoors has to offer, we can enjoy the health benefits that will actually help us be more productive (and happier!) in our daily activities.
  • Whatever you choose to do to get outdoors, make sure it’s something that truly brings you happiness and lifts your mood.
  • I know my happy place is at the beach even in these colder months!
  • This picture was taken at Seahouses last weekend, jus love wrapping up warm and watching the waves crashing onto the sand.
