Let me talk you through the benefits of doing an Oyster exercise.
The Oyster - were do I start, this is such an amazing exercise, with SO many benefits
If you haven't taken part in any of our classes yet, or aren’t too sure what ‘oyster’ exercises are, then let me quickly explain.  (free video below)

This particular exercise involves being in a  side-lying position, with the hips and knees bent, then as we move we get some external rotation in the hip joint (knee moves away from the midline of the body.)

Here are a few reasons why we should do the Oyster regularly:

1. Have you heard the saying "Move it or lose it" - Prolonged sitting can contribute to weakness in the external rotators of the hip, so by doing the oyster its basically just moving you in and out of external hip rotation.

Our hip joint is a ball and socket joint, and the goal is to maintain a normal, functional range of movement in all of our joints, in order to move with ease.

The Oyster helps to maintain our external hip rotation.  Lets think when we need to use this movement in everyday life | Getting in/out of a car | in/out of a bath or shower | stepping to the side.

2. It strengthens our Glutes -  How does your hip move into external rotation?
The glutes of course! The Oyster exercise is amazing for strengthening these external rotators of the hip, which in turn help to build strength around the hips.

3. It strengthens our hips - Strong hips mean stable hips
By building strong gluteal muscles in external hip rotation means that we will have more stability and control when we are moving around in our every day lives.
This could be just walking around or this could be when we take part in high impact activities such as running.
Having improved our rotary stability means that the glutes can support our hips and create the most stable base possible from which the legs can move from.

Lets keep doing our Oysters!  Iv added a short video for you below.  Hope you enjoy it.
